Watering Your Lawn
Once you have an area ready for a sprinkler or hand watering, do so. In hot and windy conditions turf dries out quickly if not watered. Keep as wet as possible for three to four days making sure the subsoil is soaked, then water lightly for another ten days depending on rainfall. Extra care should be taken to provide plenty of water around borders and edges. These are the areas that are frequently overlooked when in fact they need more water due to exposure to the air and often to hot pathways, brickwork etc.
Try not to walk on the lawn after watering and keep traffic off until the lawn is established. Once the turf has taken root (7 - 10 days in summer, 10 - 14 days in winter) watering can be decreased to a level that will depend on climatic conditions. As a guide, when conditions are dry, the lawn should receive 2 - 3 deep watering's in summer per week. One per week in winter, until full establishment of a deep root system (approximately 12 months).
