Soil and Lawn Starters

Much of EASTERN SYDNEY is overlaid with fine sandy 'Botany' grey soils which with the addition of compost or organic material such as chicken manure creates an excellent soil base. An addition of quality top soil may be required for bringing low spots up to the required level. Sandstone areas will require additional topsoil. Garden edges can be built up to accommodate more top soil.
Many of the estates in WESTERN SYDNEY have had much of the heavy dark soil stripped or overlaid with fill. You will need to add new soil. When purchasing soil, it is best to ask for a good quality topsoil or garden soil. A 60/40 sand/soil mix is a good standard. Those mixes that include organic matter are also recommended. If you are considering purchasing ‘turf underlay’, compare its price with that of the best quality topsoil available. As with most things, the price will indicate the quality of the product. Beware of cheap soils often made from excavation material which either sets hard or may contain nasty weed such as onion grass! Larger amounts of quality natural gully soils can be purchased direct from a quarry, to which we can direct you.
For a depth of 100 mm you will need 1 Cubic metre per 10 square metres.

Starter fertilizer and/or soil conditioner should now be added before you lay your new lawn. Sir Launcher is a premium mix of starter fertilizer and water crystals. Not only do these crystals act as a reservoir, they actually attract the root of your new lawn. Sir Launcher should be spread in the top 75 mm's of soil and lightly raked in. In this handy bucket, it is easy to use and will greatly assist the establishment of your new lawn – highly recommended. Simply order a bucket (or 2) when ordering your new lawn.
